Girl gamers.

Alright. Let it be known I’m a girl and I play games, and yes I do get sick and tired of the stupidity and gender bias placed on me because I play games. I cannot stand the never ending tirade of little boys asking me if  I have “Ginormus boobs” or if I’m fat, ugly, or if I’ll be their Xbox girlfriend. In response I’ve turned my mic off and all chat settings over Xbox Live, unless I’m in a party with people I know. Sure it sucks, but hey I deal.

What annoys the shit out of me are girl gamers who insist on making it a big deal. You know the ones; they log into Xbox Live and immediately start giggling, and feeding the little boy trolls. “Yeah I’m a girl!” and “Omg guys that’s so gross hehehe I’m not ugly I’m like super hot.” Who cares!?

More annoying than the girly girl “I’m super hot” gamers, I despise the RAWR I HAVE A VAGINA AND I PLAY GAMES AND I’M AWESOME!  A while back, I was on youtube and came across a video by a girl ranting about girl gamers. Her whole argument was valid, it doesn’t matter if you’re a girl or a guy playing the game, if you got skills you got skills. Needless to say, her whole video was her playing Black Ops and announcing her gamerness to everyone, completely contridicting everything she was saying in her video.

All I’m saying is we should be referring to ourselves as Gamers. I’m not a “Girl Gamer” I’m a Gamer. Just because I have a vagina and play video games doesn’t make me any better or any worse than my fiancee who also plays games. Listen ladies, 10 years ago we were a minority… It’s 2012 and we are no longer a minority, in fact according to ESA’s Gamer Study “Adult women represent a greater portion of the game-playing population (37 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (13 percent).” ( Game Desginers are now targeting the female demograhic! We’re on the up and up ladies! I’m a part of it and you know what, most guys are totally cool with it too. You’re getting mad at the 13 year old boys being hormonally charged 13 year old boys. You’re galavanting around thinking you’re something special, and making the rest of us look like idiots.

You don’t see guys running around screaming “I’m the best parent because I’m a stay at home dad!!!!” or “I’m a male ballerina!” Female athletes don’t run around going, “I’m the best soccer player because I’m a girl.” No one wants to be recognized on their gender, be recognized on your talent and skills in whatever it is that you do.

Long story short, I don’t want to hear any more of this “Girl Gamer” crap in seriousness. You’re either a gamer, or you’re not; gender has nothing to do with it.
